Greenpeas – Paneer Masala
Ingredients:
  • Fresh or Frozen Green peas - 1 cup
  • Paneer or cottage cheese - 200 Gms, cut into cubes
  • Garam masala - ½ Teaspoon
  • Chopped coriander leaves - 3 Tablespoon
  • Vegetable oil - 2-3 Tablespoon
  • Butter - 1 Tablespoon
  • Water -1 cup
  • Salt to taste

For masala paste:

  • Onion, medium sized - 2 Nos, thinly sliced
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece, finely sliced
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, finely sliced
  • Green chilies - 2 Nos, sliced
  • Tomato, medium sized - 3 Nos, sliced
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder - ½ Teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 2 Teaspoon
  • Kashmiri chili powder - 1- 1 ½ Tablespoon, adjust
  • Cardamom - 1 Nos
  • Cloves - 1 Nos
  • Cinnamon - 1 inch piece
  • Cumin seeds - ½ Teaspoon
Instructions:
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a pan, add in the paneer cubes and fry until slightly golden on low heat. Set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan, add sliced onion, ginger, garlic, green chilies and saute until the onion becomes translucent on medium heat.
  3. Add in the kashmiri chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, cumin seeds and saute until the raw smell disappears on low heat.
  4. Add in the sliced tomato and saute till the tomatoes are mashed well.
  5. Add in the grated coconut and mix well on low heat. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  6. Once cooled, grind to a fine paste by adding ½ cup of water.
  7. Add this masala paste into the same pan, and add in the fried paneer, green peas, ½ cup water, salt. Mix well and cook for 6-10 minutes on very low heat. Add more water, if needed.
  8. Once the gravy is thick, add in the garam masala, chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
  9. Remove from heat, keep it covered for 5 minutes. Serve hot.
